East Longmeadow Garden Club’s 2011 Scholarship

Awarded to

Alex Randall

In 2011, Alex Randall graduated from East Longmeadow High School.  Alex was awarded a $1,000 scholarship by the East Longmeadow Garden Club.  He plans to attend the Massachusetts Maritime Academy located on Cape Cod, at the mouth of the scenic Cape Cod Canal in Buzzard Bay, MA.

Massachusetts Maritime Academy is the ideal college to pursue your love for the ocean, your concern for the environment, your interest in Math and Sciences, and your thirst for adventure. As part of their training, students will travel to exotic foreign ports aboard the new training ship Kennedy -- a 15,500 horsepower, 540 foot steamship which Alex and fellow cadets will actually control under the close supervision of seasoned professionals.

The Marine Safety and Environmental Protection Department of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy consists of two programs, either of which students may choose as a major.   One program is Marine Safety and Environmental Protection; the other is Emergency Management. Because environmental, safety and emergency issues and events often overlap, the two programs share a common curriculum for the first two years. As juniors, students choose to major in one program, with the option of taking a minor in the other program. A few students undertake a dual major.

Alex is the son of Tina & Eugene Randall of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts and grandson of Julia Tomaino.
